Old Widget vs New Checkout Widget: What Works Where

TicketingHub has two website booking widgets:

  • Checkout Widget is the current widget and the default choice under Widgets → Widgets.
  • Legacy Widget is the earlier version under Widgets → Legacy Widgets.

Which widget should I use?

Use the Checkout Widget for new website installations. It has the current booking experience, works well on mobile, and supports embedded and pop-up layouts. You can preview changes before publishing them.

Both widgets can sell products, packages, extras, and gift cards, show availability in different currencies, and be styled for your website. The Checkout Widget also provides ticket-first or event-first journeys, weekly or monthly calendars, an optional product order on event selection for Event first, an optional e-mail confirmation field at checkout, custom CSS, Google Analytics, and Google Tag Manager settings.

Keep a Legacy Widget when your current installation depends on a setting that is not available in the Checkout Widget. Verified Legacy-only settings include:

  • A reseller portal layout or direct assignment to a commission reseller
  • General merchandise sales outside gift cards
  • Choosing the widget’s available languages
  • Selecting required and optional customer contact fields
  • A custom terms and conditions URL
  • Social sharing buttons and custom marketing opt-in text
  • A Book More page after checkout
  • Facebook Pixel purchase tracking

Available settings can vary by account. Check your widget editor before planning a replacement.

Move from Legacy to Checkout

There is no automatic migration. Create a separate Checkout Widget, match the products and settings you need, preview and test the complete booking and payment journey, then replace the old embed code on your website. Your Legacy Widget continues to work until you remove or replace its embed.

For a new installation, open Widgets → Widgets, create and publish your Checkout Widget, then open Installation Instructions to copy the embed or pop-up code for your website.

For Legacy Widget guidance only, see How to Create a Widget. If you still need a Legacy-only reseller setup, see Creating a Reseller Widget.
